Simple Acts

Here is a note, I wrote to a kid in our neighborhood.  Names have been changed, etc. But it felt right to share here.

Dear Kyle-

I want to extend a Thank You for giving my son your__. In my book, you are a hero!! You were willing to give a fun ___ that held good memories for you and let another boy have it.

I also wanted to encourage you in life. I noticed that you seemed to be a shy kid, the times we met… I was a very shy kid too. I used to keep everything inside. Sometimes people can be mean, they may say things which hurt us very deeply. Over time, I learned to take these hurts to God, and let Him transform the pain in my heart to good things, and helping others.

We all have challenges to overcome…Some kids have trouble breathing and swallowing, some kids have trouble reading or walking, while some kids have trouble looking other people in the eyes. I want to encourage you and say, “Don’t be afraid!” I can tell your parents love you, too. Don’t forget that is a gift.

People stare at celebrities all the time!! They are asking themselves, “Is that Jennifer Aniston?” “Is that Brad Pitt?” They look…and they look, and they look again. Just remember, there are more good people in the world than bad people. And you are one of them, you are a hero!

Wishing you the best in life,

Dawn Segawa
